James Andry, MD, is a fellowship-trained, board-certified orthopedic surgeon whose practice centers on shoulder arthroscopy and reconstruction, sports medicine, elbow surgery, and fracture care. Dedicated to excellence, he is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-focused orthopedic treatment to the San Diego community.
A native of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, Dr. Andry pursued his undergraduate studies at the University of Notre Dame before earning his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine. He went on to complete his residency in orthopedic surgery at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center, part of Columbia University. To further refine his expertise, he was selected for a prestigious fellowship in shoulder arthroscopy and reconstruction through the American Shoulder and Elbow Society.
After training, Dr. Andry and his wife relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, where he built a high-volume practice specializing in complex shoulder disorders, sports injuries, and trauma. Alongside his clinical work, he joined the faculty at Creighton University School of Medicine as an associate professor of surgery, teaching residents and fellows while also developing innovative educational methods to enhance surgical training.
Several years later, Dr. Andry and his family returned to San Diego to raise their children and continue their careers. His current practice addresses a broad range of orthopedic conditions, including rotator cuff tears, labrum injuries, shoulder instability, arthritis of the shoulder and elbow, throwing-related injuries, ligament sprains, cartilage damage, meniscus and ACL tears, and fracture care. He takes pride in combining advanced surgical training with a compassionate, individualized approach for every patient.
In addition to his clinical commitments, Dr. Andry is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the California Medical Association. With extensive experience and a reputation for thoughtful, evidence-based care, he remains devoted to helping patients restore function and return to the activities they enjoy.
